Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showed off Meta's Ray-Ban Display glasses: the company's latest smart glasses, this time with a screen, during the Meta Connect event.

These glasses aren't true augmented reality (AR)—Meta is working hard on that—but the company reportedly has another surprise ahead.

Tech journalist Mark Gurman said it was the first time he'd seen the potential of these devices.

Gurman also revealed that he learned Meta is working on another pair of smart glasses, this time with two screens, according to a report published by PhoneArena.

Surprisingly, these new glasses won't feature AR technology, but they will be released in the same year Meta plans to launch the consumer version of its Orion AR smart glasses.

This may seem a bit strange, but the company likely understands that smart AR glasses will cost a fortune.

Even the Ray-Ban Display, which retails for $799, is costing Meta a lot of money. After a decade of bleeding cash from its AR division (Riality Labs), the company is still running a financial loss to cement its position as a leader in the future of computing.

Meta will likely want to offer a cheaper, non-AR alternative to its AR glasses in 2027.

That way, the company can still convince consumers to try the smart glasses, and perhaps ensure they remain long-term customers if they like what they see.

The Ray-Ban Display currently displays a screen on one side of your field of vision.

The dual-screen model will likely improve on this by displaying two screens on each side, potentially allowing you to multitask with two or more apps open at the same time.

Of course, what every augmented reality (XR) enthusiast is eagerly anticipating are the aforementioned AR glasses, which will be released in 2027.

These glasses will demonstrate to consumers just how powerful this vision of the future of computing can be.

Thank you !
