We just unveiled a first-of-its-kind incubation platform that supports full avian development outside the biological eggshell, from early embryo to hatch, with zero extra oxygen needed.

Yeah, this is huge.

This breakthrough is foundational to our South Island Giant Moa de-extinction project. Moa eggs are estimated to be around 80x the volume of a chicken egg. No living bird is even close to being large enough to host one.

The Colossal artificial egg changes that.

And beyond de-extinction, it could unlock major new tools for bird conservation, genetic rescue, and avian biotech overall. Imagine the possibilities.

The Colossal artificial egg features a lattice shell and a bioengineered membrane that matches the oxygen transfer capacity of a natural eggshell. It’s compatible with standard incubators, and its largely transparent design allows us to closely monitor developmental milestones, which is critical for de-extinction science where visual confirmation of edited lost traits is critical.

And yeah, it will scale to any size. Including the giant moa.
