The James Webb Space Telescope has discovered one of the oldest galaxies ever observed, giving scientists a rare glimpse into the early universe nearly 13 billion years ago.

The galaxy, called LAP1-B, may contain chemical fingerprints linked to Population III stars — the very first stars believed to have formed after the Big Bang. Researchers say the galaxy is one of the most chemically primitive ever detected, with extremely low levels of heavy elements and possible evidence of intense early star formation.

Scientists were able to observe the galaxy thanks to gravitational lensing, where massive foreground galaxies magnify distant light like a giant cosmic telescope. The findings could help explain how the first galaxies formed and how the universe evolved from darkness into the complex cosmos we know today.
