🇦🇺 DEMON DIGS DEEP! Alex de Minaur Pulls Off Sensational Comeback in Vienna! 💥🎾
It looked like "goodnight Vienna" for Australia's No. 1, Alex de Minaur, but the fifth seed produced a trademark display of pure grit at the Erste Bank Open to keep his Turin aspirations firmly alive!
Facing an absolute whirlwind from Czech star Tomáš Macháč, De Minaur battled back from the absolute brink of elimination to secure a thrilling 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory in their first-round clash on the indoor hard courts of the Wiener Stadthalle.
📉 From the Brink of Defeat to Total Turnaround
The match started as a complete nightmare for the Australian world No. 10. Tomáš Macháč came out red-lining his groundstrokes, unleashing a barrage of heavy baseline winners under the Vienna roof. Macháč completely rushed De Minaur, racing through the opening set 6-1 and opening a commanding 4-2 lead in the second.
When De Minaur fell behind 0-30 on his own serve at 2-4, he was just six points away from a devastating first-round exit.
But "The Demon" earned his nickname for a reason. Refusing to go down quietly, he stabilized his game, extended the rallies, and began breaking down Macháč's rhythm.
• He held serve to make it 3-4, then broke the Czech in a grueling three-deuce game.
• After surviving a massive, nine-minute service game on his own racket, De Minaur broke once more to steal the second set 6-4.
🏆 Dominating the Decider
While Macháč managed to break early in the third set, it proved to be his final push. De Minaur reeled off five consecutive games to take total control of the match.
After 2 hours and 3 minutes of highly physical tennis, De Minaur held his nerve in the final game to serve things out and seal the remarkable comeback victory.
